You may recall that we went through 6 glorious months of K doing her “poopies” in the potty (re: IPT/EC/PDI ) However, what you don’t know is how we ruined it.
Waaaaay back in July we went on a Canada Day camping weekend trip. It was K’s first camping trip. Up until then K was doing her poops and some pees in her potty and was perfectly content doing so. So we got ambitious. We decided that we would continue with the IPT while camping .. with a different potty (our Boon Potty Bench was too big to bring along so we got a small Ikea potty — the designs being totally different from each other!). BIG mistake!
The first time we put her on the potty she didn’t really like sitting on it (as it was different and not as comfortable as her potty bench) and we had her sitting on it out in the open in front of our tent. She pooped in it OK, but put up a bit of a fuss. We should have clued in. The next time we put her on it she protested. Of course we were persistent and attempted to sit her on it a third time. No way.
That was the end of the potty for her.
When we returned home, she adamantly refused to sit on her potty bench.
Not wanting to create more traumatizing associations with her potty, we stopped using it. Ugh, didn’t realize how good we had it until she went through a bout of “loose stools”.
Anyway, fast forward 4 months later and lo’ and behold K started showing interest in her potty again! So far she willingly goes to and sits on her potty, diaper and pants off and reads her “Let’s Go Potty!” book (complete with flushing sounds!). Everytime she does this we heap the praises on her and she loves it. We even let her model her cute cloth training pants, which are much more comfortable than her diapers, and she seems to love that. No poops or pees yet, but I’m very relieved that she’s slowly getting over the camping day trauma that we inflicted on her!
Will keep you posted!
